Navigating the world as our true selves can be challenging, even scary, especially if our family, friends, and community respond with judgment or confusion by our ever evolving changes. To cope, we may put on a mask and pretend to be someone who we are not. We may minimize our beliefs or actions because we fear the reaction of others.  Sometimes we may completely shut down and remain on autopilot for the comfort of routine.  The problem is that we change who we are to avoid the judgment and rejection of others. We are often judgmental or mean to ourselves because we believe there is something "wrong" with us.
